Special Projects Initiative

2009/2010

The Tecumseh Community Development Corporation (TCDC) is pleased to announce a new contribution program known as the Special Projects Initiative (SPI).  The SPI contribution program is designed to support community economic development for First Nation communities within the TCDC membership.  Funds for this program are provided through Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario (Fedev).

Features of the Special Projects Initiative are outlined below.

Eligible Recipients

  • First Nations and Agencies operating under their authority;
  • Not-for-profit organizations operating on First Nation communities;
  • Legal commercial entities operating on First Nation communities; and,
  • Groups, alliances and associations of the above.

Funding Categories
The Special Projects Initiative (SPI) consists of five (5) funding categories. Program highlights are as follows:

  1. Business Development Initiative –Support for new and existing businesses.  $5,000 per recipient, not exceeding 90% of the total eligible costs;
  2. Skills Development Initiative – Training for new hires, existing employees and entrepreneurs.   Maximum will not exceed $5,000/ per employee with a maximum of $25,000 toward one recipient organization.
  3. Internship Initiative – Hiring of youth interns for new/innovative business and/or community development activities. Recipients can access up to $2,500/month. 
  4. Local Initiatives Project – Community based initiatives that enhance community capacity for community economic development.  Recipients can access 100% of total eligible costs and will not exceed $10,000/project.  Legal commercial entities are ineligible.
  5. Community Capacity Projects – Support strategic projects that enhance community capacity for community economic development.  Eligible costs for recipients may be up to $100% of total eligible costs and will not exceed $150,000/project.  Legal commercial entities are ineligible.

Intake of Applications
Applications to the program are on a continuous basis and must be submitted to Special Projects Officer at the Tecumseh Community Development Corporation. 
Depending on the nature of the project, additional information to supplement the application will be requested once eligibility and special conditions are determined.

All projects must have a completion date of March 31, 2010.

Approval Process
The General Manager of TCDC may approve project applications up to $25,000.  All projects approved in-house will be presented to the Board monthly, for their review and ratification. Projects in excess of $25,000 will require approval by the TCDC Board.

Where project applications are declined, communication to the client will be the responsibility of the General Manager.

All successful applicants will be required to sign letters of agreement outlining all reporting requirements.

A 10% holdback of the contribution will apply to all contributions pending receipt of final reports and/or deliverables.
